Abstract: | In the beginning the ethnology and history of the Herero nation are introduced. The way of wearing and manufacturing techniques of the Herero traditional costume are described. These consist of leather with heavy iron applications. A conservation concept for a badly damaged cloak is developed. Leather bonding tests show that the thermoplastic adhesive Lascaux 360/498HV is suited best for the gluing of the degraded leather. Finally, tears are closed by use of single fibre gluing. |
