Abstract: | This study examines the so-called Diasec® process, a finishing technique that entails adhering the image side of large format (colour) photographs or ink jet prints to a transparent substrate such as a sheet of acrylic glass. An introduction to the (art) history and the technology of the process is followed by an investigation of frequently encountered forms of deterioration to “Diasec” objects and their possible causes. The light aging behavior and the long-term Stability of the process is also examined in detail. Finally, some treatment options for damaged areas are tested and important issues in handling “Diasec” objects are discussed. |
