Abstract: | This paper deals with the development of a concept for the restoration and conservation of a gas ceiling lighting (first manufactured in 1881 by Julius Pintsch AG). The light was installed in one of the compartments of the Bromberger sleeping carriage of the Deutsche Technikmuseum Berlin. This particular sleeping carriage is a significant piece of German history as it is the oldest German sleeping carriage, which was operated during the former German empire. Besides the historical investigation of the gas ceiling lighting, the treatment and conservation measures taken to preserve it, have been recorded. During treatment, numerous restoration methods were explored, resulting in the realisation of the completely reconstruktion of the cabin. |
