Abstract: | The conservation of wall paintings through covering still remains a much disputed restoration method. The application as well the removal of the covering involve the risk of damaging the original substance of the object. When covering uncovered spaces in the village church of Paretz, the technique was modified specifically to suit the object in question. With the help of dummies covering systems have been tested that met the demands even though using relatively thin application. A technique using lime hydrate dispersed in ethanol as binder achieved positve results. Whether this technique will prove successfull on a long-term basis remains to be seen. |
