Abstract: | In order to provide some guidelines for dealing with marouflaged paintings, this work aims to make ethical considerations about existing options. Therefor, an overview of the historical origins and development of the Marouflage, its possible effects and the associated assessment from today´s perspective should be created. Based on this knowledge, the existing treatment options are then presented and evaluated from an ethical perspective. Finally, this is explained using a practical example by presenting a project by the State Office for Monument Preservation in Baden-Württemberg. This concerns the decision to dismantle large parts of the painting inventory of the parish church of St. Blasius in Ehingen. |
