Melina Lüders: Stabilization of an early modern binding from the Hildesheim city archive under conservation principles back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: This work deals with an early modern leather binding from the city archives of Hildesheim. A stabilization of the binding is to be carried out under conservation principles. For this purpose, first a documentation of the condition and a following evaluation of the binding will be carried out. A concept for both restoration and conservation measures will be developed. Restorative measures include dry cleaning, loosening of adhesive tape on the spine, stabilization of multi-ple book pages by closing tears, and stitching of those loose book pages. This will be followed by conservation measures, which will be the focus of this work. The goal of this work will be the development of a protective cover. Several models will be created and tested. The cover is supposed to protect the binding from further damage, supplement the missing front cover, and thus ensure renewed handling.
