Abstract: | The present master thesis deals with the scientific examination of a fragmented carved relief from Bückeburg museum. The relief depicts a scene from the martyrdom of St. Agnes. Another key aspect is the comparison to another relief from this period in relation to possibly linking both pieces to the same ensemble. Both reliefs are assumed to originate from the former St. Agnes church in Steinbergen. The scientific findings will be compared to those of the second relief. Afterwards, the art-historical correlations of both objects will be compared. The conclusion confirms that both reliefs belong to the same ensemble, probably a winged retable. Furthermore, thesis deals with the conservation history of both objects, as well as the conservation of the relief at hand. In the end, a concept to present both objects a spart of one ensemble is developed. |
