Abstract: | This bachelor`s thesis is primarily concerned with coated papier-mâché-objects as applications. In this thesis, applications are openly defined as objects that are applied as a section of another object, as part of an interior decoration or a part of an architectural concept. Priorities of the work are material characteristics, the predecessors of papier mâché, the development of papier mâché from paper as well as the differentiating history of papier mâché. The work includes historic recipes from the first known recipe for papier mâché in 1422 until the year 1900. Objects from the beginnings of the use of papier mâché in art are being described as well as the production of papier mâché in Ludwigslust as a climax of the history of papier mâché in Germany. Types of utilization of papier mâché in contemporary art and design are stated as an outlook. |
