Abstract: | The present master thesis deals with the technological investigation of the painting Crucifixion of Christ, executed around 1390/95, which is attributed to Lorenzo Monaco and which is part of the art collection of the Georg – August – University Göttingen. In the course of a reevaluation of the attribution of the painting to Lorenzo Monaco by the Georg – August – University Göttingen, the painting is examined in detail for the first time. The fabric support as well as the painting material and technique are in the focus of the investigations. The two different wood panel paintings, on whose back Monaco´s painting was placed, are part of these investigations. The wooden supports and painting materials and technique are also being investigated. The result of the investigations provides a basis for further considerations regarding a possible purpose of Monaco´s painting. Furthermore, this work analyses the current conditions and the various modifications made to the painting and its two wood panel paintings over the past. |
