Abstract: | This master thesis consists of the description, analysis of damage and concept of actions of several mosaic fragments which belong to two medieval floor mosaics from the Rhineland area. Preliminarily this thesis gives informations about the original structural context and the condition of the findings in the churches of St. Nikolaus and St. Medardus in Brauweiler and St. Victor in Xanten. Through determination of the used materials and techniques and comparing these to similar finds the mosaics can be historically classified. Additionally there is a description of the used excavating and salvaging tools in the context of methods of restoration from the 19th and 20th century. |
