Abstract: The "Race Driver Mosaic" (Inv. 1919, 25 and 1919, 26) is part of the mosaic collection of the
Rheinisches Landesmuseum Trier. In its two still surviving image fields, it shows several quadriga in
full gallop, which is why it is referred to as "Race Driver Mosaic". It was lifted in two archaeological
campaigns in 1919 and 1965. The south‐western image field had already been conserved and
restored a few times before it arrived at the restoration workshop of the University of Applied
Sciences in Erfurt. The aim of the conservation and restoration work there was the museal
presentation of the mosaic. Conservation work was completed at the beginning of 2011. Within the
scope of this dissertation, the mosaic was applied onto a new carrier system. Furthermore, defects
treatment was carried out, and the object was prepared for museal presentation.
