Abstract: | Various waxes have been used for the treatment of archaeological iron and still are frequently applied in the Thüringisches Landesamt für Denkmalpflege und Archäologie. The critical debate of the application of waxes as an impregnation agent is confronted with the positive experimental reports from Weimar. A description and characterization of the wax‐impregnation under atmospheric pressure or vacuum is followed by considerations, how the varying effectiveness of both methods could be examined and displayed, for example, with micrographs |
