Abstract: | In the first part of this diploma thesis an exemplary partial restoration of the portrait of Elisabeth von Lothringen is done, a painting of the beginning of the 17th century from the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum Munich. The treatment conforms to the conception determined in a previous internship‐paper. It was necessary to take off a former starch adhesive from the reverse‐side of the canvas by using an airbrasive device. The tear in the canvas was mend with Lascaux® Acrylkleber 498 HV, for the filling Beva® 371 was used. The retouching was performed with Mowilith® 30. The second part of this diploma thesis discusses the phenomena of the bark formation in the paint layer of the portrait. Therefore it includes an outline of drying of linseed oil and especially copaivabalsam, because in the analysis of the binding media it was assumed as a component. It is also written about the handling of restoration of objects that content copaivabalsam today. Finally an own test series of copaivabalsam‐treated objects is going to clarify the severity of outer influence‐factors on the development of paint layer deformations. |
