Abstract: | In 1987, the „Kreuzkirche“ of Eisenach was converted into an archive. 54 gallery ‐ and 9 pulpitpaintings, dated back to the first decade of the 18th century, were moved and stored up to another location. These pictures, painted in monochrome grey, are based on the new and old testament themes of the copperplate prints from the “Merian Bible” (1617). The technical examinations of the paintings showing the state of conservation lead to the development of a restoring concept. The aim of this essay was to evaluate the right materials and techniques for conservation and presentation of these baroque paintings. The main subjects: to find the right materials and solutions to preserve the whole stock and to develop a flexible, wooden frame to fit to the pictures, without interfering with the structure of the pictures. A public presentation is going on in the “Nicolaikirche” of Creuzburg in the following years. |
