Abstract: | The Master project contained the conservation supervising of the archaeological leather shoe collection of the Egyptian Museum, Cairo. The shoes of the collection has been excavated at the beginning of the century from in different regions in the eastern and western desert of Egypt. Since then, the archaeological leathershoes are a part of the unique archaeological collection of the Egyptian Museum, Cairo. The shoes are on display in the same condition as they were discovered during the excavation: since centuries they are kept flattened, deformed dirty and gross inside the showcase. Correspondingly complex is the preservation and damage of these dried and dissociated leather shoes: hardening due to gelatinization, embrittlement with concomitant powdering decay, fragmentation and pasty dirt crusts. |
