Abstract: | The Buddhist temple complex Wat Ratchaburana is evidence of the former glory of the royal city of Ayutthaya in Thailand and its long lasting predominance as a trade center in Southeast-Asia. The remains of the high-quality lime stucco decoration are highly endangered and require an immediate conservation intervention. The investigations and documentation of the stucco provided essential research results on the materials used and the working techniques applied at the main sanctuary. The evaluation of the deterioration processes and weathering influences was based on the inventory and condition assessment. Main focus of the praxis-oriented work was the delopment and test of appropriate injection mortars for the safeguarding the important decorations. Developing and testing a suitable injection mortar for saving the stucco decorations was focus of the consequent conservation concept remains. |
