Doris Hassler: Fragment of a polychrome sculpture of Christ formerly part of a medieval “Palmesel”-group (around 1500): conservation-restauration of a ruinous condition of the polychromic layers back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: Regarding its art-historical and cultural context the “Palmesel” can be related to polychrome sculptures used in medieval liturgy.
The main focus of the technological investigations was the reconstruction of the polychromic stratigraphy and the sequence the working steps within each polychrome phase.
A focus within the practical work is the cleaning of the water-sensitive paint layers. Another aspect of the practical work is the retouching. A promising variant for sufficient retouching of the strongly reduced paint layer is demonstrated on a test area.
