Verena Ebel: Conservational concepts for a visible storage in St. Maria Lyskirchen in Cologne back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: By example of a conservational concept for a visible storage in the Romanesque church St. Maria Lyskirchen, Cologne, it´s implementation from conception to a finished draft, is gradually demonstrated. The responsibilities of church and state regarding Cologne cultural heritage are explained, followed by considerations pertaining to project management and the conservator´s field of duty. A profound knowledge of the church´s building- and restoration history including the interior is regarded as vital planning guide. Requirements for visible storage in uncontrolled climate are contrasted with stored object´s conservational demands; an exhibition space is determined by selected analyses. Dealing with severe soiling of the church interior presents a challenge. Assistance with the process of concept development is given, before the concept presentation commences.
