Abstract: | The northern portal of the Church of Our Lady in Trier with its rich and high-quality sculpture is one of the first Gothic buildings in Germany influenced from France. In addition to various stone materials installed on the portal, a few remains of architecural polychromy have been preserved which speak for an originally rich decoration. The north portal has been studied both of the stone materials used, as well as the remains of architecural polychromy. The various materials should be allocated to the construction period and subsequent review phases. The remains of polychromy should be placed in context. For additional Evaluation of one`s own findings on the polychromy investigation, many objects of the gothic period were used as comparison objects. |
