Abstract: | PING PONG (1966) is a wall-hanging light installation controlled by an electric motor: Two red painted light boxes (50/50/20cm) are alternately active. Either „Ping“ or „Pong“ is visible then on the slid-in red glass panels. Wear and tear caused by frequent exhibition induced several repairs. Some of them significantly changed the aesthetic quality of the installation. After having clarified the history of these changes, different concepts of conservation were discussed and evaluated. The finally chosen concept brought back the primary aesthetic quality and also was realized as part of the diploma project. |
