Kathrin Schmidt: Greek Ostraka from Egypt in the Papyrus Collection Vienna. Salt problems – Examination and Conservation back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The Greek Ostraka from the Papyrus Collection Vienna contain due to the storage in soil in the region of Fayum an increased number of salts in the ceramics. The resulting damage is responsible for the partially worse conservation condition of 36 sherds leading to massive losses of the inscriptions. After comprehensive investigations selected consolidation- and desalination methods were reviewed and analysed in test series. Thereby achieved knowledge leads into the development and realization of a conservation concept.
