Abstract: The exposure to microbial contaminated historical wallpapers is not an easy task. Many aspects of preservation, conservation and health detriment must find consideration. This work is to obtain a view of multiform historical wallpapers concerning its history their production as well as besides used materials and assembly techniques. The knowledge of the composition of historical ground and its professional reconstruction is important to answer the question “why go wallpapers mouldy”.
The consolidated findings were won by different sources and own investigations. They give important tips to the causes of microbial contamination to wallpaper and contribute to its preservation as a historically valuable cultural asset.
