Zusammenfassung: | The high altar of the St. Martin’s Church in Landshut from 1424 is one of the oldest retables in Old Bavaria, which is built up with stone. It was examined for building, material, the changes in 1664 and in the nineteenth century and its current stock. The basis of this paper is an exact dimension of the high altar with a mapping of its most important characteristics. The analysis of the used stones resulted Mittenwald sandstone and Regensburg green sandstone. Both were used in the Middle Ages and in the nineteenth century. Furthermore, possible hypothesis about medieval polychrome painting, sculptures and wings were discussed. As well, the paper contains a current transcription of the numerous inscriptions and some reflections about the combination from high altar and tabernacle. |
