Zusammenfassung: Subject is the conservation of a large sized baroque preacher’s epitaph (Daniel Pfnör, in whole shape), seriously damaged and soiled, with regard to accompanying objects. Natural scientific examination questioning technical art and destruction accompany the work, which is completed by a substantial discussion of used conservation products. The ‘Pendant’, a portrait of his father Johannes, is also theoretically examined and described. Consolidation and tear mending were worked out using animal glue, improved and altered by plant glue (gum tragacanth, starch), relining with BEVA, using the heated low-pressure table. During the cleaning process (non-ionic surfactant, saliva) the large sized, deep black retouch and fatty soil could be reduced. After consolidating the support the canvas was mounted again; finally a partial reconstruction of picture and frame with regard to art history and future presentation was created.
