Zusammenfassung: | The collection of clocks of Franz Sobek in the Geymüller Schlössl is a gem amongst Viennese museums. In this paper the history of the collection and the evolution of the mantle clock are described. The clock in question contains simple clockwork of iron and copper alloys, produced in a manufactory. The wooden casing is covered in gilded glasses, which are in turn covered by paper on the backside. In this the clock is curiosity in the canon of Viennese clockmaking of the 19th century. Later additions and historic repairs are evidence of a varied object history. This was corroborated by extensive research and scientific analyses. A special challenge was the fragmentary condition of the object and the varied material combinations within the casing. These led to a faceted concept for the conservation and restoration. While the clockwork will be conserved in its defunct state, the focus of this work lies in the reconstruction of the casing as well as the cleaning, filling and bonding of gilded glass. |
