Zusammenfassung: | The “Triumphal Procession of Kaiser Maximilian I.” originally consisted of about 110 single parchment sheets with paintings executed in pen drawing, water color and gouache and was designed as a continuous succession of all sheets. The second part of the artwork is housed by the collection of the Albertina Wien and comprises 59 objects. The present work tries to reconstruct creation process, presentation and reception of the Triumphal Procession by interpreting traces visible on the objects, integrating art technological sources and literature. Furthermore, results from recent natural scientific research and observations gathered during current conservation treatments helped to broaden the view. The aim of this work is to demonstrate the high demands imposed on a medieval painting workshop in order to execute a project of this dimension and complexity. |
