Zusammenfassung: | The Albrecht Haupt special collection at the Technische Informationsbibliothek Hannover comprises a group of some 1,600 volumes on the history of garden art, architecture and architectural theory from Italy, France, Germany and the Netherlands. This group also contains some volumes merely generated out of graphical prints. Until the invention of the photographic technique, graphical prints were recognised mainly as a medium for illustrating any information rather than a medium of art. So they were used for didactical reasons at the University. These aspects had an impact on the handling as well as on the way of storage. While binding the graphics had in earlier times served practical advantages under aforementioned terms, the focus nowadays is more on the specific changes affecting the graphic prints due to the binding. The correlation of the occurance of specific changes and the way of storage can be shown by the optical registration of binded graphic prints, the analysis of bookcover-materials and by putting the condition of some single sheets of graphic prints in contrast. In contrast to the changes induced by climatic changes, the adhesion of dust or handling, which can be controlled by preservational steps, the material used for the binding shows to be the main criterium concerning the keeping or breaking of the present binding. In regard to the Blaubeurener Empfehlungen and based on the resluts of the registration and materialanalysis, suggestions for the further handling of the volumes and their graphic prints are given. |
