Zusammenfassung: | In the following thesis, the constitution materials, and the state of conservation of the Ambiente n. 40 of the Villa Arianna in Castellammare di Stabia, Italy, was investigated. The Villa is from the republican-imperial roman period. The Room is decorated with wall paintings from the IV style and a monochrome, black mosaic floor. Furthermore, a conservation and restoration concept were developed. This was exemplarily carried out on the north wall. The investigations of the constitution materials have revealed interesting aspects regarding the building history and the technique of the Intonachino-plasters. An attempt was made to interpret these by comparing them with other examples. After the excavations in 1968, the Room was treated several times in different conservations campaigns. The aim of this diploma thesis was to develop suitable conservation methods for such an archaeological cultural asset. Special attention was also given to the conservation and restorative approach to the old conservation treatments. The reduction/extraction of an acrylic-coating applied during an earlier campaign was classified as a necessary aspect from a conservation point of view. From an aesthetic point of view, the handling of the various old putties of the lacunas was discussed in particular. Since these sometimes take on idiosyncratic forms, due to improper execution, they may interfere with the legibility of the paintings. Another aim of this work was therefore to discuss a suitable method of treatment for these, in order to enable the viewer to experience the artworks more clearly. |
