| Zusammenfassung: | This Master-Thesis investigates the sustainable preservation of ruins in their natural environment. Sustainable conservation concepts and the following actions should be developed over a long period of time and implemented slowly in small steps together with a long term monitoring Ruins form complex structures and are directly influenced by environmental influences such as the climate conditions and the surrounding nature. Additionally to their value as an architectural monument, ruins also provide habitat for endangered plant- and animal species. In order to capture this complex system of a ruin that is exposed open to the weather and to be able to plan an adjusted strategy for its preservation, it needs a holistic approach - the building has to be looked at in all its dependencies. Using the case study of the medieval castle ruin Neu-Aspermont this thesis examines how data of the original material with its later changes and the condition can be collected with a survey and condition assessment including phenomenological investigation and additional building-physical analyses, to evaluate the existing degradation processes in interaction with the environmental influences in order to develop a sustainable conservation concept. In comparsion to the previous preservation measures and the with further examples of different conservation concepts carried out on further castle ruins in the "Kanton Graubünden" the different concepts and methods are assessed. This and the knowledge gained through the investigations supports in the decision making process - which materials and methods should be used in the future and how an ecological concept with minimal interventions could look like. Transfer and exchange of knowledge within all parties involved in the preservation of the ruin plays a crucial part. |
