Zusammenfassung: | The study collection of the Institute of Systematic Zoology and Evolutionary Biology at the Friedrich Schiller University and the research collection at the Phyletic Museum in Jena contain a variety of diverse objects. Subject of this Master-Thesis are the wax-anatomy models made by the Ziegler studio and the Somso Modelle GmbH, which had been acquired from the 19th century onwards. The aim is to set up an inventory as well as to investigate and document their condition. Furthermore an exemplary conservation treatment is conducted on a model series depictingthe development of the ventricles, nuclei and tracts of the human brain. The exemplary conservation treatment is destined to be applicable on the entire wax-model collection. Cultural and scientific studies were executed to determine the materials of the exemplary model series as a basis for a suitable conservation concept. Technologies which are used in wax conservation were discussed to find adequate conservation methods for the identified materials. Finally,a concept of measures for preventive conservation was outlined, which is based on climate monitoring and for which cost-effective and technically feasible implementation-plans were proposed. |
