Zusammenfassung: | This Bachelor-Thesis deals with the examination of a painting on a textile carrier and the preparation of a conservation and restoration concept. This artwork of an unknown painter is a portrait of Therese Lutteroth (1810-1878), who was the daughter of a mayor of Hamburg, Germany and is dated about 1845. Information about the extant materials and painting techniques could be gathered through findings of macro- and microscopic investigations, evaluation of layer cross-section polish, ultraviolet light and binder analysis. The unusual priming of the canvas with different binders and shades is due to the freedom of action of the painter´s academic education. This experimentation with painting materials and the use of tempera are exemplary for paintings of the early 19th century. Based on these investigations, causes for the artwork´s material alterations could be determined and a conservation and restoration concept could be established. Discussions of various methods of tear-bridging and proposals for a safe transport of the painting are integrated into the concept. |
