Zusammenfassung: This paper is focused on brass clasps and their reconstruction with an emphasis on the artificial patination of
newly made supplementary clasps.
To reach this aim some of both the historically and currently used patinations have been tested for their
practical applicability. The impact of chemical changes of the surface on the integrity of the workpieces was
also examined. Another main focus is on changes in the material characteristics of brass by cold
deformation and subsequent annealing. In this connection patinations of both cold deformed hardened brass
and of annealed soft brass were examined.
