Zusammenfassung: | The porcelains in the “Chinese” cabinets of Schloss Schönbrunn are among the most famous examples of chinoiserie found in the baroque era. Their collection includes Chinese, Japanese and European porcelains from the 17th to the 19th century. Due to the eventful history of the collection, the porcelains have been highly damaged. That’s why a total of 45 porcelain objects show secondary measures with extensive overpaintings out of synthetic resin. These are covering the still existing glaze and cause a significantly change in appearance. The main focus of the diploma thesis is to clarify the history of conservation and to examine former restoration methods. Based on eleven selected porcelains the handling of the synthetic resin overpaintings will be discussed to develop a concept of measures that is compatible for all of the overpainted porcelains. Finally, the altered measures are realized on an exemplary porcelain object. |
