Zusammenfassung: | The topic of this diploma thesis is a collection of fabrics contained in a wooden chest, which originally formed part of the reliquary treasure of the House of Brunswick-Lüneburg, the so-called “Welfenschatz”. The current inventory of the Abegg Foundation comprises 43 textile objects of the “Welfenschatz”– several reliquary bags and numerous fragments of medieval fabrics – which are all presented in this thesis. They offer a great variety of techniques, patterns and materials, which could be of great significance for the history of textile art. The main focuses of the diploma thesis are the detailed technological analyses of the textile reliquary bags, which form a special group within this collection. This part of the thesis focuses on weaving, material and pattern analyses and includes a terminological description of the employed techniques. |
