Zusammenfassung: | This paper introduces diatomaceous earth as an agent for pest control in museums. Diatomaceous earths are fossilised sedimentations of unicellular algae. The usage of diatomaceous earths is very versatile. For the last century diatomaceous earths have been used as agent for pest control in different fields. Their mode of action is based primarily on the tall surface of the fossil algae. If an insect gets in touch with the dust, it desiccates. The use of diatomaceous earth is only sufficient against pests in museums when it is used as a part of an integrated pest management program. How diatomaceous earth can be used as part of this is going to be discussed and the potential user will get necessary information about mode of action and handling of the dust. |
