The subject of this Master’s thesis is the wooden stele from the sculptural ensemble entitled Drei Stelen, or Three Steles, (1983) by Volkmar Haase from the sculpture park at the Gottorf Castle in Schleswig, Germany . In February 2020, structural damages made it necessary to remove the wooden stele from the ensemble. In the future, however, the museum wishes to again include this stele as part of the complete artwork. Based on technical analysis, examination and a condition report; different presentation concepts including plans for conservation and restoration were developed. Special attention was payed to general issues regarding the preservation of outdoor sculptures and wood in outdoor areas. The final evaluation of the presentation concepts considered conservation, ethical and financial aspects.
