The target of the study involves a burnt clay vessel with figures. The object belongs to the collection of the National Museum in Cracow. The aim of the conservation works was to prepare the object for the museum exhibition. The vessel comes from the area of the Moche Culture. Owing to the fact that the Moche Culture prevailed between 400 and 550 AD, and the shape of the handgrip, the time of this object can be defined at the fourth century AD. The vessel presents southern workshop. This is proved by the decorative character (typical ornaments in the form of triangles with their hypotenuses set against each other, and separated with the diagonal of the rectangular they are inscribed into), and by red colour on the white background as well as the shape of a handgrip. The vessel was used at funerals and was then buried. Therefore, it did not play a typical function of a vessel. The presentation should be associated with the ritual held on the day when, according to the tribal beliefs, the dead rose from the graves. In the first stage of conservation works, the object was joined by the use of compresses and acetone vapours. In order to reassemble the object, DP – 50 poly(vinyl acetate) was used. At the same time, the putty made of aggregate combination was applied in order to fill the defaults. It combined quartz sand, ground black glass, and DP- 50 poly(vinyl acetate) binder. The Vienna putty with pigments was prepared to lay the final coat imitating ceramal. The surface of putties had been covered with B- 72 Paraloid solution before the colour integration was carried out. Pricking was done with aquarelle paints. The surface of pricks was covered with B - 72 Paraloid solution to imitate the polish which was on the surface of the original.
