Thea Kohlenberg: The Saints of Sottrum: Preservation and Presentation of the fragmentary gothic wall painting Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:
Abstract: The bachelor thesis examines a fragment of a mural on the southern wall of the nave of the Martin-Luther-Church in Sottrum, Holle. Dating from around 1420, the fragment depicts figures among architectural motifs. After being uncovered in the 1960s, the fragment underwent restoration, but there are no documented sources on these measures.
The thesis aims to develop a conservation concept that includes conservation and restoration measures, as well as approaches to improving the fragment´s presentation and legibility. This concept is based on a detailed inventory and condition analysis. Observations on historical restorations are placed in the context of monument preservation practices of the 1960s.
