| Abstract: | A classification of damage categories is made for a convolute of books from Staatliche Bücher- und Kupferstichsammlung Greiz. The damage is special because it is purely mechanical war damage caused by bomb fragments. The condition of the books is recorded on the basis of a random sample. Based on this information, the characteristic damages (impact, puncture, grazing impact, tear edges and material displacement) are defined and described. With this data, a recording sheet was developed for the classification of the entire affected stock in order to achieve an allocation to treatment groups. |
