Zusammenfassung: This bachelor’s thesis deals with the historical techniques of tulle frames. This technique is
examined in an ensemble of 43 frames from a series of paintings by the artist Johann
Heinrich Wilhelm Kretschmer at Marienburg Castle. In addition to describing the
provenance of the paintings in relation to the castle, the production process of this
technique is retraced on the basis of art-technological studies and historical sources among
others, by Jean-Felix Watin (18th century) and Pierre-Louis Bouvier (1765-1836).
Furthermore the conservation aspects and methods of these frames are discussed.
